2019 March Madness

Eight Gwynedd doubles teams faced off in this year's big dance. It was a weekend of bracket-busting, buzzer beaters that dashed the hopes of cinderella and conference powerhouses alike,  And the food was pretty good too.  In the end quality shooting, deep crosses, and crafty veteran play won the day as the team of Belber & Caswell prevailed over the high energy pace and touch doled out by Boucher & Gundlach in a thrilling five game championship match.  Tournament Czar, DJ and caterer Doug Baird awarded the winners bottles of Jim "F'ing" Beam.

2018 Club Champions: Edson/McIntosh and Kacergis

A raucous gallery on a festive Friday night watched as new GRC Doubles Club Champions were crowned with Howard Edson and Lach McIntosh prevailing over Rob Gundlach and Bob Kacergis in a come from behind, five game thriller. No game was decided by more that three points while the rallies were consistently long and incredibly hard fought. The atmosphere was electric as relieved Gwyneddians officially celebrated the return of squash to the sacred confines after a brief "technical outage."

On December 15th, Bob Kacergis retained his Club Singles Champion status defeating Greg Baird 3-1 after round robin play which eliminated Mike Lambert, who went 2-4 on the day and Tracy Korman, who went 0-6. Both Kacergis and Baird were undefeated in the Round Robin before squaring off in the hard fought finals. Special thanks to Mike Lambert for hosting Gwynedd's A/B singles championships at Huntington Valley Country Club while the Church was temporarily out of commission.

2018 Johnny Johnson Turkey Shoot Doubles Tournament

The Floods, father and son, came up big in Gwynedd’s annual Johnny Johnson Turkey Shoot doubles tournament on 11/21/2018 - "Family Feud Edition." Bob Flood III teamed with Chanel Erasmus to take the main draw, getting stronger in each round with more experience as a team. Bob and Chanel prevailed over a formidable father-son duo: Jeff Barrett and his son Ryan. Bob’s son, Bobby Flood IV, teamed with Karen Belber to take the consolation title over David Velho and Buzz Meagher.

The event was also notable because three generations of Meagher's were in the draw. In addition to Buzz, Chris, his son played, as did Brendan and Ryan, Chris’s sons. Many thanks to all who participated and made this family affair so much fun!

2018 Oktoberfest Mixed Doubles Tournament

Twelve teams, representing most clubs in the Philadelphia District plus Connecticut, vied for Gwynedd’s coveted Oktoberfest mixed doubles title. The quality of competition was high, with many, tight matches played at a high level. The finals were no exception with Kat Grant/Lach McIntosh claiming the title over Julie Kessler/Joseph Purrazzella in a five-game thriller, filled with sharp shooting, amazing retrieves and long rallies. Congratulations to all semifinalists for their determination and high level of play including the teams of Alan Grant/Karen Belber and Ken Jaffe/Pam Hansen. The consolation title went to Whitney Roller and Ian McIntosh in a walk over vs. finalists Ken Jaffe and Pam Hansen — best wishes for a speedy recovery to Pam, who played through an injury in a courageous 3-1 semifinal victory over a determined and athletic pair, Greg Baird (sub for Peter Lutes) and Kierra Murasko-Blank.

The participants and their guests rocked the Gwynedd bar into the wee hours on Friday and Saturday nights with spirited celebrations. As Ween, a favorite band of the house put it "The party raged and the guests were screaming, I could have danced all night!"

Many thanks to to those who helped organize the tournament and pull it off so well, with a special thank you to Julie Kessler, Jen Wales and Lach McIntosh who arranged for meals, Lach, Bill Rux and Jason Brader, who devoted countless hours to completing the opulent, newly renovated mens’ shower room, and DJ Dubsterini Phresh, aka Doug Baird, who DJ’ed the walk-on music and served up two more of his famous bagels and lox plus champagne breakfasts of champions, with kind support from Keith Brundin.

2018 Kick Ass Kick Off Tournament

The 2018-2019 season is now officially underway!

16 players on 8 teams competed in the "Kick Ass Kick Off" tournament organized by Julie Kessler, Doug Baird, and Guenter Wesch. Doug served up dirty dry martinis and played his funky jams while Julie expertly managed tournament play which stayed on or ahead of schedule all night.

The burritos were hot but the squash was hotter. Brad Caswell and Cheryl Springfels kicked ass in the finals defeating Lach McIntosh and Jim Hlebik in two games.

Thanks to all of the players, members, and guests who made this a great tourney and party.
